This assignment is developed during my Textile Testing module at Teko – Design & Business School.
There are investigated 5 garments: 3 wovens (shirt, working vest, and water repellent trousers) and 2 knits (underwear and T-shirt). For understanding the suitability and quality features of the garments, the following tests were performed.
Tests for woven garments:
1. Colour staining test against soft water, acid sweat, and alkaline sweat – ISO 105-A03
2. Colorfastness against washing – ISO 105-E01
3. Shrinkage test/dimensional stability test – ISO 5077, ISO 3759 and ISO 6330
4. Tearing test – EN ISO 13937-2 and Elmendorf Tear Apparatus
5. Pilling test – EN ISO 12945-2
Tests for knit garments:
1. Colour staining test against soft water, acid sweat, and alkaline sweat – ISO 105-A03
2. Colorfastness against washing – ISO 105-E01
3. Shrinkage test/dimensional stability test – ISO 5077, ISO 3759 and ISO 6330
4. Pilling test – EN ISO 12945-1
5. Bursting test – EN ISO 13938-1
6. Colorfastness against rubbing – ISO 105-X12
Besides this, the garments are described in terms of yarn type, fiber content, and fabric construction. By alternating lectures with sessions in the laboratory, I developed a coherent presentation of the test results, made retail price calculations and recommended quality improvements in the production of the garment.
